Grace in Small Things - Day 120 Staying on Course

GiST Day 120
Thank God it’s Friday, TGIF! Well it is the end of the “work week” for most of us still trying to get to the magic date when work is/can be an elective. It is the heralding of the time for R and R, my leisure time, at least for two days. It’s the day before we get to do what ever we choose that doesn’t include chasing the clock or being on the clock. Some times I have a few things scheduled on Saturdays or have to ‘work’ on a project etc. Well, it goes with the territory but I relish the thought and arrival of Friday evenings.

Remember how we used to say early in the week, well I still hear it now, especially in the ladies room, ‘I wish it was Friday’! I used to say that too but I realized that I am wishing away my life each time I do that. Well, not exactly but what if it had an impact. Actually over time I’ve accepted that I have to live in the present and be appreciative of the now…..even though I still struggle with that piece. I think perhaps that is why I’ve gotten old so fast. But so be it! I’m looking forward to Saturday because I don’t have to get up early and chase my tail! I hope all of you are in this boat too! – If this is your desire/schedule…thing...

Here are my graces for today, this beautiful Friday; the first Friday of February, 2010. This day, well since last evening, we’ve spent most of the time talking about the 6 inches of snow fall – depending on where you are in the State or Region that is expected this weekend. So it makes not having to go out that much sweeter for me. Well, let’s see whose prediction is right.

I am very grateful that Lord Mutton did well last semester and on his Regents Exams.
Heading out to dinner at Applebee’s – lord mutton’s choice.
Clean laundry and I didn’t do it – just had to put them away. So sweet!

Surprise visit from a colleague that moved to another location two years or so ago - Joy!
Another simple straight forward, staying on course day! – Promising and refreshing.

Grace in Small Things Day 119 - Simplicity

Today I took a slow, calm rise to a bright sunlit Thursday morning. I had no feeling or sense of urgency to move the morning forward to work time. The time moved anyway and I uncommitted-ly travelled to the office on mass transit. I didn't even want to take on any tasks, like driving, that could spoil the moodI tried to keep this pace through out the day even though there were some anxious and intense issues to deal with. Nothing went on that got me off of my stance today. As I write this note I remember my Hummel figurine that says - "what a beautiful day... now watch some bastard louse it up!" Guess what, I didn't!

The workday ended as peacefully and simply as it started.
I am grateful for calm and quietness Quiet and calm disposition so that I can achieve the goals.
Tasty garden salad with cranberries and walnut.
Friends on the ride home with loud silly chatter and laughter.
This is the day.....I will rejoice and be glad in it!

Grace in Small Things - Day 118 A New Day!

Isn’t it great to welcome a new day! Like the sun after the rain, the morning after the night, the freshness after a nap…! Today is a new day and I feel renewed and grateful for this day. It felt like a new beginning even though everything with the job is the same.

I am thankful for a very good outcome to an unscheduled meeting this morning. – Pleasant surprise.

Today I attended a late afternoon meeting that included two people I like very much and enjoy. This certainly re framed my mind to think and focus on the pleasures of friendship and appreciation instead of all of the other gobble gook of the work life. We were so engrossed in the work group that when the time keeper called time, we were amazed at how fast the time went by. This was a good end to the work day.

Renewed faith!

My daughters are thankful for their packages. I am so pleased! I know that they will have a few good meals, and maybe a get together or two with friends.

You know, I had a good day today despite the woes and anguish of yesterday. Did I say I had a good day! Thank God for answered prayers. I prayed for peace and presence of mind to be understanding. I guess reliving myself of the burden and discomfort I have about the situation not only gave me rest, it sent good karma throughout my day. All day!

I am thankful for the opportunity to share and for all your good wishes and positive energies.

GiST Day - 117 Trying Times

A beautiful bright sunny, brisk winter day. The air is full of joy, fear, anticipation and need for clarity of mind and direction - answers! Despite this situation, I still have a lot to be grateful for.
GiST -Day 117
The anticipation of the changes and unknown/unclear plans coming into place at work is intense. I am working to keep myself 'detached' from the anxiety and focus on the things I am responsible for and can do and have control over. A tough task. The tendency to 'huddle' to share sentiments, concerns and I guess quiet the fear and reduce the anxiety of the unknown is pervasive. It is hard to stay aloof or detached or follow my plan to let things work out as they may. Perhaps even for a moment during the day I want to forget that I could possibly be in the group that may get the proverbial axe but I have to be a team player and be supportive. Even so, my struggle of staying in the present, staying focused and be open to what's next is challenged.

Through this period I am seeking to be reflective, contemplative and patient so that I can see the path that is there for me and naturally follow it.

My daughter was able to make her dental appointment today. The insurance was in place. She is quite happy. She had a very good report. I am happy!

Went food shopping with my boy. I was able to shop for us at home and also for the two girls away at their school. I am truly grateful for this. Peapod..I love u!

With this post, all I want to so say is this. I am very grateful that I am here, here now and able, and I am open to the possibilities. I will leave everything to unfold as it will without getting into the way and muddling it up!

These are trying times.

GRACE in SMALL THINGS -DAY 116

This was a brisk, bright sunny Monday morning. Getting back to work. I feel somewhat energized after last week's illness.

Today I am grateful for:

1. Catching up on family issues with an old friend and finding out the similiarities in our days. Feeling supported.

2. Getting a task done that enabled me to give back to a co-worker.

3. Appreciation of my room mates - The office gang.

4. Working out the insurance issue for my daugher without much hassles so she can go to the dentist.

5. Thankful for reminders to stay in the present and do the best that I can.
